Cell Phone Photography Workshop – Winter TBD

$150.00

Winter on the farm is a perfect time for a photography workshop.

Anna Hedges, a long time friend of the farm, will be taking the lead in this hands on workshop and we’re so excited!  Anna is a professional photographer born and raised in East Tennessee. We believe what separates Anna from others is her ability to see things through a different lens, from a different angle, and at her own pace. Anna is well versed in DSLR photography but also appreciates the value of using that close-at-hand cell phone and states, “While the equipment you have is important, more important is how you see the world around you and the best camera to capture that is the one you have nearby.”

Anna believes good photography involves slowing down and paying attention so that photos tell the story we want them to tell. In photography we need to give ourselves permission to play and we think a run down farm in winter is the perfect place to do just that. We should trust ourselves more to first create and play, and then analyze later. It can be intimidating to not know exactly what to do but it is far better to pause and be in communion with what is passing in front of us. If we know what we want to convey, the principles of art and design can help convey that better.

For this workshop, we will first come up to our house and gather around the fireplace where we’ll get acquainted with each other and with the technical aspects of our cell phones (no experience necessary). We will introduce the principles of art and design that apply across all mediums and help us see the world in a new light and we’ll share visual examples of each including a handout. We’ll take a few minutes and each will shoot a few examples of three of these principles up near the house where we have the panoramic mountain view and then share a pic or two of our favorites.

Then the fun part as we’ll head down the hill (in the truck if you’d like) and explore the landscape and old buildings of the farm and apply all we’ve learned. There will be three of us to wander with you and help out when needed. We’ll have some heat in the Homeplace so you can step in, snap some pics, and warm up when needed. And finally we’ll gather again to share pics  and talk hopefully about how just one afternoon has broadened our ability to better capture all the beauty around us.
